Starting from 2010-2011, the United Arab Emirates switched to a trimester education system. Accordingly, there are three rest periods during the academic year:
- Summer break (summer vacation).
- Winter holidays.
- Spring break.
In addition to vacation periods, schoolchildren rest on public holidays. Usually there are from 4 to 8 such days during the school year. All holidays in the UAE are celebrated according to the Muslim calendar. Therefore, in the generally accepted Gregorian calendar, their dates are constantly changing.
The dates of public holidays are set by the government one year in advance. Below we have provided approximate dates for holidays when schools are closed. The information will be checked and updated periodically.
IMPORTANT! In the United Arab Emirates, schools can change their school holiday schedule. But this happens quite rarely. The government requires them to adhere to the recommended school year schedule as much as possible. In addition, there must be at least 182 school days in an academic year.
School holidays in the UAE 2023-2024
Below are the school holidays in the United Arab Emirates 2023-2024. We also indicated holidays in the UAE that do not fall within the holiday periods. On these days, schools are closed to teachers and students.
- Start of the school year: August 28, 2023
- Winter holidays: from December 11, 2023 to January 1, 2024.
- Spring break: from March 25 to April 14, 2024.
- Summer holidays: from July 1 to August 25, 2024.
Days off from school:
- September 29, 2023 – Birthday of the Prophet.
- December 1, 2023 – Martyrs’ Day.
- December 2, 2023 – National Day.
- June 15-18, 2024 – Eid al-Adha.
School holidays in the United Arab Emirates 2024-2025
In this section you will find the start and end dates for school holidays in the UAE 2024-2025. Public holidays that are not included are also listed. Schools in the United Arab Emirates are closed these days.
- Start of the school year: August 26, 2024.
- Winter holidays: from December 16, 2024 to January 5, 2025.
- Spring break: from March 24 to April 13, 2025.
Schools are closed for holidays:
- September 15, 2024 – Birthday of the Prophet.
- December 1, 2024 – Martyrs’ Day.
- December 2-3, 2024 – National Day.
- June 5-8, 2025 – Eid al-Adha.
School holidays in the UAE 2025-2026
Below are the official dates for school holidays in the United Arab Emirates 2025-2026. We have also indicated the approximate dates of holidays for which schools are closed. At the time of writing, the UAE government has not published an official approval for the holiday calendar.
- Start of the school year: August 25, 2025.
- Winter holidays: from December 15, 2025 to January 4, 2026.
- Spring break: from March 23 to April 12, 2026.
Non-school days in 2025-2026:
- December 1, 2025 – Martyrs’ Day.
- December 2-3, 2025 – National Day.
- May 26-29, 2026 – Eid al-Adha.
