In this publication we will talk about summer, autumn, winter, spring school holidays in Australia 2023, 2024, 2025. The ALYO.info team has collected only reliable information for each state and territory of the country. All dates are officially approved and published!
This is important to know: When do schoolchildren go on holiday in Australia?
Australian schools close for school holidays four times during the school year. But the start and end dates for holidays depend on the type of school and the state or territory. There are several types of schools in Australia:
- Public schools (6699 or 69.7%).
- Catholic schools (1,766 or 18.4%).
- Independent schools (1,149 or 12.0%).
- Private schools (not included in statistics).
School holidays in Australia are the same for all public schools located in the same region. The only exception is summer holidays in New South Wales. This state is divided into two divisions: Western and Eastern. In the Western Division, summer vacation ends one week later than in the Eastern Division. Catholic, private and independent schools may deviate from the official school year schedule.
Except for holiday periods, schools on the Green Continent are closed for national and major local holidays. National public holidays are listed below. Below we will give the exact dates of school holidays in Australia in 2023, 2024, 2025. You’ll also find lists of local Australian holidays for each state or territory (dates on which Australian schools are closed).
