School holidays 2026-2027 in Slovenia (official dates)

Below are the official school holiday dates for elementary and high school. As a reminder, children attend elementary school for the first nine years, after which they (optionally) move on to high school. High school lasts from three to five years.

IMPORTANT! Winter break dates vary depending on the location of the school. They occur in two periods (we’ve included these periods in all school holiday tables in Slovenia):

(1) – Schools located in the statistical regions of South-Eastern Slovenia (excluding the municipalities of Ribnica, Sodražica, Loški Potok, Kočevje, Osilnica and Kostel), Carinthia Region, Podravina Region, Pomurje Region, Savinja Region and Posavina Region.

(2) – Schools located in the statistical regions of South-East Slovenia (only the municipalities of Ribnica, Sodražica, Loški Potok, Kočevje, Osilnica and Kostel), Gorenjska Region, Goriška Region, Notranjska Krast Region, Obalno Krast Region, Sredneslavenska Region and Zasavska Region.

Actual dates of Slovenian school holidays in the 2026/27 academic year

In the Republic of Slovenia, official school holiday dates vary slightly between elementary and secondary schools. However, these differences disappear when we calculate the actual dates. This is because public and religious holidays are not included in the holiday periods. Therefore, we have compiled a list of actual school holidays, taking into account Saturdays, Sundays, and non-working/non-school days. This list is the same for both elementary and secondary schools.

Actual school holidays 2026-2027 in Slovenia

• Summer holidays – from June 25 (Thursday) 2026 to August 31 (Monday) 2026 (including Statehood Day (June 25, 2026) and days off before summer holidays).
• Autumn holidays – from October 24 (Saturday) 2026 to November 1 (Sunday) 2026 (including weekends).
• New Year holidays – from December 25 (Friday) 2026 to January 3 (Sunday) 2027 (including Christmas (December 25, 2026), New Year (January 1 and 2, 2027) and weekends after the New Year holidays).
• Winter holidays (1) – from February 13 (Saturday) 2027 to February 21 (Sunday) 2027 (including weekends).
• Winter holidays (2) – from February 20 (Saturday) 2027 to February 28 (Sunday) 2027 (including weekends).
• May Day holidays – from April 24 (Saturday), 2027 to May 2 (Sunday), 2027 (including the Day of Resistance to the Occupier on April 27, 2027) and weekends).
• Summer holidays – from June 25 (Friday) 2027 to August 31 (Tuesday) 2027 (including Statehood Day (June 25, 2026)).
