IMPORTANT! School holiday dates in Sweden vary by county, municipality, and sometimes by individual school. Below are the earliest and latest start and end dates for school holidays. Further down the article, you’ll find school holiday dates in Sweden for the 2026-2027 school year for each county.

Please note that the autumn, sports, and Easter holidays are all one week long. The wide range of dates for sports holidays helps reduce the pressure on ski resorts. The differences in the timing of Easter holidays are due to regional preferences and traditions.

Summer holidays in Sweden 2026

Below are the dates for summer holidays in Sweden for the 2026-2027 school year. As with other holiday periods, these dates vary depending on the municipality in which the school is located and the school itself.

Autumn holidays in Sweden 2026

The autumn school holidays in Sweden in 2026-2027 are set on the same dates, regardless of county, municipality, or school: from October 26 to 30, 2026 (Monday to Friday). However, there may be exceptions:

• School administration may add 1-2 days for teacher preparation or training.
• Independent schools may have their own academic year schedule.

Christmas holidays in Sweden 2026-2027

Sports holidays in Sweden last one week. Please note: municipal and school websites often state that they run from Monday to Friday. We’ve provided this information in a different format—from Monday to Sunday. This will make it easier for you to plan your vacation.

• Stockholm, Gotland, Värmland, Västmanland, Dalarna – 1–7 March 2027.
• Västernorrland, Jämtland, Västerbotten – 8–14 March 2027.
• Västra Götaland — 8-14 February, 15-21 February, 22-28 February, 1-7 March, 8-14 March 2027.
• Östergötland, Skåne, Halland – 15-21 February, 22-28 February 2027.
• Uppsala, Södermanland – 22–28 February, 1–7 March 2027.
• Gävleborg, Norrbotten – 1-7 March, 8-14 March 2027.

INTERESTING FACT! In Sweden, sports holidays have several unofficial names: Vinterlov (winter holidays), Skidlov (ski holidays), Februarilov (February holidays), Kokslov (coke holidays, almost never used).

Easter holidays in Sweden 2027

The Easter holidays in Sweden last one week. The final decision is made by the individual municipality or school. Below are the possible Easter school holidays for each Swedish county:

• Södermanland, Östergötland, Jönköping, Kronoberg, Kalmar, Gotland, Blekinge, Halland, Värmland, Västmanland, Gävleborg, Västernorrland, Jämtland, Västerbotten, Norrbotten – from 29 March to 4 April 2027.
• Uppsala, Västra Götaland, Örebro – 22-28 March, or from 29 March to 4 April 2027.
• Skåne – 22-28 March, 29 March to 4 April, or 5-11 April 2027.
• Stockholm – March 22-28, or March 29 to April 4, 2027.
• Dalarna – March 29 – April 4, April 5-11, or April 12-18, 2027.

Summer holidays in Sweden 2027

Public holidays in Sweden in the 2026-2027 school year

The Public Holidays Act (1989:253) defines the list of public holidays in Sweden. Schools are closed on these days, and these dates are considered school holidays. Here is a list of Swedish public holidays for the 2026-2027 school year:

• October 31, 2026 (Saturday) – All Saints’ Day.
• December 25, 2026 (Friday) – Christmas.
• December 26, 2026 (Saturday) – Second Day of Christmas.
• January 1, 2027 (Friday) – New Year.
• January 6, 2027 (Wednesday) – The Thirteenth Day of Christmas.
• March 26, 2027 (Friday) – Good Friday.
• March 28, 2027 (Sunday) – Easter.
• March 29, 2027 (Monday) – Easter Monday.
• May 1, 2027 (Saturday) – May Day.
• May 6, 2027 (Thursday) – Ascension.
• May 16, 2027 (Sunday) – Pentecost.
• June 6, 2027 (Sunday) – National Day of Sweden.

IMPORTANT! In Sweden, there are teacher training days (Studiedagar), when students are not in school. These dates are determined by each school individually. Schools often add them before or after school holidays to give children a longer break from classes.
