School holidays in Romania 2026-2027
Below are the dates for school holidays in Romania for the 2026-2027 academic year. They were approved by the Decree on the structure of the 2026-2027 academic year of February 16, 2026. Please note that the Ministry of Education and Research has established the length of summer holidays depending on the type of school.
PLEASE NOTE! In this article, we use the common names for school holidays, but officially they are referred to by their academic period number (school holidays after Module 1, 2, etc.).
Summer holidays 2026
- Students completing grades 1-7 and 9-11 – from June 20 (Saturday) to September 6 (Sunday), 2026.
- Students completing 8th grade – from June 13 (Saturday) to September 6 (Sunday), 2026.
- Students graduating from grades 12 and 13 – from June 6 (Saturday) to September 6 (Sunday), 2026.
- Senior students in the technology and vocational fields – from June 27 (Saturday) to September 6 (Sunday), 2026.
Other school holidays in Romania 2026-2027:
- Autumn break (break after module 1) – from October 24 (Saturday) to November 1 (Sunday), 2026.
- Christmas holidays (holidays after module 2) – from December 23 (Wednesday) 2026 to January 10 (Sunday) 2027.
- Ski holidays (winter holidays, holidays after module 3), one week during the specified period – from February 15 (Monday) to March 7 (Sunday) 2027.
- Easter holidays (holidays after module 4) – from April 24 (Saturday) to May 4 (Tuesday) 2027.
IMPORTANT! Ski holiday dates are set by district/municipal school inspectorates. They must be published no later than April 1, 2026. According to “Resolution 126/16.II.2026,” each educational institution must notify students and their parents or legal guardians of the 2026-2027 school year schedule.
Summer holidays 2027
- Students completing grades 1-7 and 9-11 – from June 19 (Saturday) to September 5 (Sunday), 2027.
- Students completing 8th grade – from June 12 (Saturday) to September 5 (Sunday), 2027.
- Students graduating from grades 12 and 13 – from June 5 (Saturday) to September 5 (Sunday), 2027.
- Senior students in the technology field (except for students in grades 9, 12 and 13) – from June 26 (Saturday) to September 5 (Sunday), 2027.
- Senior students in vocational programs (except for students in grades 12 and 13) — from June 26 (Saturday) to September 5 (Sunday), 2027.
PLEASE NOTE! The school year officially begins on September 1st. However, children actually start school on the second Monday in September. At the time of writing, the date of the first day of school has not been finalized, but there is a 99% chance that the first module of instruction will begin on Monday, September 6, 2027.
“School Differently” and “Green Week” in the 2026-2027 academic year
The national program “School Differently” and the “Green Week” program will run from September 7, 2026, to April 23, 2027. Each school sets their own dates. Two requirements must be met:
- Programs must last 5 academic days.
- Programs cannot be conducted within the same academic module.
As with ski holidays, school administrations must notify students and their parents or legal guardians in advance. The Resolution specifies a deadline: this information must be communicated by April 1, 2026.
School holidays in Romanian schools in the 2026/27 academic year
In addition to school holidays, children in Romania are not allowed to attend school on all public holidays. Also, in 2026, schools will be closed on Teacher’s Day (Monday, October 5, 2026). Below is a list of public holidays in Romania for the 2026-2027 school year.
- Monday, October 5, 2026 – Teacher’s Day (not a public holiday, but schools are closed).
- November 30, 2026, Monday – Saint Andrew.
- Tuesday, December 1, 2026 – National Day of Romania.
- December 25-26, 2026, Friday – Christmas.
- January 1-2, 2027, Friday – New Year.
- Wednesday, January 6, 2027 – Bobotheaza.
- January 7, 2027, Thursday – Saint John the Baptist.
- Sunday, January 24, 2027 – Day of the Unification of the Romanian Principalities.
- April 30, 2027, Friday – Good Friday.
- May 1, 2027, Saturday – Labor Day.
- May 2-3, 2027, Sunday – Easter.
- June 1, 2027, Tuesday – Children’s Day.
- June 20, 2027, Sunday – Pentecost.
- June 21, 2027, Monday – Pentecost.
- August 15, 2027, Sunday – Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
