School holidays in Romania 2025-2026
The Romanian school year is divided into five modules. After each module, there are rest periods, which are called school holidays after module 1, 2, and so on. For convenience, we’ve compiled these periods in a table, along with the names used in other countries.
Below is a table of school holidays in Romania for grades 1-13. Please note that the dates of winter break (after module 3) depend on the location of your school.

Group 1 – Cluj, Timis and Bistrita-Nasaud.
Group 2 – Bucharest, Ilfov, Salai, Bihor, Arad, Iasi, Hunedoara, Brasov, Caras-Severin, Gorj, Valcea, Arges, Dambovita, Brasov, Prahova, Buzau, Tulcea, Mehedinti, Dolj, Olt, Teleorman, Ialomita and Calarasi.
Group 3 – Satu Mare, Maramures, Suceava, Botosani, Alba, Sibiu, Mures, Harghita, Neamt, Covasna, Bacau, Vrancea, Vaslui, Galati, Braila, Giurgiu and Constanta.
IMPORTANT! The National Educational Programs Săptămâna Verd) and Școala Altfel must be held between September 8, 2025 and April 3, 2026. Each school or lyceum will set the dates individually. The following rules must be observed:
- The duration of the programs is 5 working days.
- The programs cannot be conducted in one training module.

Public holidays in Romania for the 2025-2026 academic year
In addition to school holidays, children in Romania are given time off on public holidays. Schools are sometimes closed for Teacher’s Day, October 5th. However, in 2025, this holiday falls on a Sunday, so there can be no additional day off. Below is a table of public holidays in Romania for the 2025-2026 school year.
