Holidays in Austria 2023, 2024, 2025 (all states, state and unofficial)

In this publication, ALYO.info will tell you about the holidays in Austria in 2023, 2024 and 2025. You will find out which Austrian holidays are celebrated in different states. Also, in what cases and who has a non-working day, and when it is not. Separately, we wrote about the ban on holding events on certain dates in certain Austrian lands.

What holidays are there in Austria?

Austria has officially established public holidays. There are 13 such days throughout the year. They are celebrated all over the country, regardless of land and state. If employees go to work on a public holiday, they are entitled to compensation. This may be additional time off and / or additional pay for work. These holidays include:

    • New Year.
    • Three holy kings.
    • Easter Monday.
    • National holiday May 1st.
    • Ascension of Christ.
    • Pentecost.
    • Corpus Christi.
    • Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
    • National holiday October 26th.
    • All Saints’ Day.
    • Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary.
    • Christmas.
    • Saint Stephen’s Day.

Interesting fact! Surely you have noticed that Easter and Pentecost are not included in the list of public holidays. The dates of these holidays change annually, but they always fall on the official non-working day, Sunday. Therefore, they were not made public holidays.

There are also 9 official holidays, which are working days, or are not celebrated throughout the country. The conditions of work and rest on such dates are regulated by laws or collective labor agreements. If the field of activity does not fall under a collective labor agreement, the conditions are described in a regular agreement between the employee and the employer.

Further in the publication, we will talk about the holidays in Austria in 2023, 2024 and 2025. They are presented in chronological order. Where necessary, we will explain whether a holiday is an official day free from work or study.

    Event Restrictions

In some regions of Austria there are restrictions on holding public events. They relate to three holidays and the day of mourning (the day of mourning is announced additionally in connection with significant events). Below is a list of dates, types of prohibited events and states in Austria that have bans in place .
